Says Matt of his new album:
“It has some of that singer/songwriter heart in there, but making this one, I knew I wanted to experiment with arrangements more,” Hires says of his full-length sophomore effort. “Some of the arrangements are a little more pop, some of it’s a little more edgy, and all of the songs have a little more honesty to them.”
On Facebook, he said “All I want for my birthday is for you to buy my new album next week.” But I think he also wanted this cake. Happy Birthday, Matt!

In an unfair turn of events (for me anyway), Kiss FM will be presenting both Family of the Year and Matt Hires on August 1 as part of their Cool Canyon Nights series. If you’re lucky enough to be near El Paso, that would be a show you ought to try to make.
This is from earlier this year, but it just popped up on YouTube.

Thanks to my friend Sherri for recording this performance of Elliott Smith’s Baby Britain. I never expected to hear Matt cover my favorite artist, so this was a nice bonus. If asked, I would have picked a different song for Matt to sing, but in the end, I think that this song suits him really well. Bonus Signal in the Sky.
